Spellbound Spectators

Spellbound spectators pressed to the fish bowl
Imaginatively entering that world within
Held to the horror of a tragic show
Reversals of someone’s health and fortune

Call appropriate emotions forth
To create a society ideal
Suffering when stirred, cultivates compassion
Especially when pained, by another’s ordeal

Human nature has a tendency to abuse
With self hatred that can be projected out
Could we direct love, sympathy and compassion
To those who hurt or knock others about?

The Shadow of Dominance – Gift of Synergy
Wikipedia and the Merriam-Webster defines “oppression” as an exercise of an authority or excessive power in a burdensome, cruel, or unjust manner. The dark side of ego and pride has an underlying fear of being perceived as powerless, and a natural reaction to the discomfort is to seek “a wielding of will” where one sets himself above another. If the will to dominate shifts toward the will to be compassionate, we will find love. Lifting this shadow of dominance gives the ability to offer the gift of oneself through love rather than will, so there is no longer an identification with the ego. When “dominance” reigns, there is a pushing down of the lover, so that they may rise. But if the gift of synergy is used, trust and goodwill will bring more positive results – whether this is in intimacy, community or the world.
